Making his return appearance on track since taking a tumble late last year, ASHA Award nominee All Canadian Mjjz made up a six length deficient down the stretch to capture the $8,500 Open Pace on Saturday night at Northlands
Park.
Driven by Jeff Stone, All Canadian Mjjz settled in to fifth place from Post 5 while the popular Timberline Court (Gerry Hudon) had the inside advantage and took control of the six-horse field, leading the way past fractions of :28.2, :58.2, and 1:27. All Canadian Mjjz launched his attack at the top of the stretch and came flying home in :27.3 on the far outside to prevail in 1:55.4. The winner edged out Bachelor Pad (Bobby Clark) while Sixdaysontheroad (Bill Tainsh Jr.) finished one length back in third over the pacesetter.
All Canadian Mjjz paid $14.10 to win as the 6-1 fourth choice. The Allamerican Native-Sliced Thin gelding kicked off the late Stone Daily Double, which paid $78.40, and was one of four wins on the 11-race program for the reinsman.
The five-year-old is an ASHA Awards finalist in the Champion Aged Horse category with Neal Diamonique and Trust The Artist. All Canadian Mjjz won seven of his 33 races last season while banking over $50,000. He is owned by trainer Rodney Starkewski of Lamont and Larry Thomas of Edmonton. The awards banquet will be held next Saturday, February 4.
