Just 12 three-year-old fillies are going postward at Woodbine in the opener of the Miss Vera Bars Pacing Series on Thursday night, but among them are a couple of stand-outs, both hailing from the shedrow of Murray Brethour.
In the first of the two $20,000 splits, the lightly-raced lass, Artists Dynasty, has been highlighted as the 3-5 favourite coming out of three solid performances in the recent Blizzard Series at Woodbine. The Real Artist filly, who is trained and co-owned by Brethour, put a win on her scorecard in the first leg of that series, and while she was dominated in the second round and the final by Randy Fife’s Onehotvett, she still brought home cheques for third and fifth, respectively, while giving notice that the best is likely still to come.
Mylittlerebel, a Camluck daughter out of the Life Sign mare, Highland Dancing, may be the one to watch in the second Miss Vera Bars split. Brethour has only sent her to the starting gate on six occasions in her young career, but Mylittlerebel has never gone home empty-handed, and with only five fillies to defeat in her division she may well add a third career victory to her scorecard. She’s rated the 5-2 morning line favourite.
Catch the first leg of the Miss Vera Bars Pacing Series, for non-winners of three races or $30,000 lifetime (as of October 31) Thursday night at Woodbine, and the second leg on Thursday, February 5.
