Driver Mark MacDonald has experienced his share of on-track spills, but he's currently sidelined after being involved in an off-track accident this past Friday.

MacDonald was off his drives Friday night at Yonkers Raceway after being rear ended before the card.

"I was heading to qualify Dune In Red at Yonkers Friday night, stopped for a coffee and got hit from behind hard," MacDonald told Trot Insider. "I was at a complete stop, the car hit me was doing probably 30-40 miles per hour. Quite the jolt."

MacDonald spent Friday night in hospital for precautionary reasons. He reports a small concussion and bit of whiplash from an incident that "could have been much worse."

Also in the vehicle with MacDonald was his wife, Alea, who was driving. She also suffered a concussion and whiplash as well as a jammed shoulder from the force of the seat belt.

Coming off his best money-winning season in the past four years, MacDonald boasts more than $82 million in purses earned along with 5,624 lifetime wins. The P.E.I. native and two-time O'Brien Award winner as Canada's Driver of the Year will be reevaluated on Monday for a better prognosis on how long he might be sidelined.

Please join Standardbred Canada in wishing Alea & Mark MacDonald a full and speedy recovery.
