The board of directors of the Delaware County Fair has approved Phil Terry to be general manager of the Delaware County Fair and the Little Brown Jug. Terry, who has served as interim manager of the fair since July of 2008, will also continue as director of Marketing.
"I look forward to continuing the challenge of managing a county fair racing program in Ohio," said Terry, who first began working at the fair as a student at Ohio Wesleyan University. "I directed traffic as a policeman in 1968, the year Rum Customer won the Little Brown Jug."
Since becoming director of Marketing in 1998, Terry has expanded simulcasting, created the Jug Future Pool and worked with Lavern Hill in the construction of the Jugette Barn. Phil also provided leadership in the development of the Hospitality Pavilion.
Kent Hastings, president of the fair board, said, "The board is pleased and excited about having Phil in the role of fair manager and marketing director." The Board approved Terry's position at a meeting on January 20.
Terry also has served as past president of the fair board and the Little Brown Jug Society. In 2008, Terry received a President's Award from the U.S. Trotting Association for decades of exemplary service to harness racing.
"The 64th Little Brown Jug will be raced Thursday, September 24, the latest in the season that it can be scheduled. I'll see you there," said Terry.
