The Canadian Horse Racing Hall of Fame (CHRHF) invites the public to participate in the nomination of people and horses who have made a significant contribution to Canadian Standardbred or Thoroughbred horse racing, for induction to the Canadian Horse Racing Hall of Fame, as part of the CHRHF Class of 2026.
The nomination deadline for the following categories is Friday, Feb. 20 at 5 p.m. EST.
Nominations are being sought in the following categories:
- Person: Trainers, drivers and jockeys.
- Builders: Includes, but not limited to, breeders, owners, officials and others.
- Communicators: Includes, but not limited to, writers, broadcasters, photographers, announcers and bloggers.
- Veteran Person: Trainers, drivers or jockeys whose careers have been concluded for 20 years, but less than 50 years.
- Male Horse: Colts, geldings or stallions whose significant contribution to Canadian racing as racehorses and/or as sires occurred within the past 20 years.
- Female Horse: Fillies and mares whose contribution to Canadian racing as racehorses and/or broodmares occurred within the past 20 years.
- Veteran Horse: Horses whose careers have been concluded for 20 years, but less than 50 years.
Complete nomination and election criteria are available on the CHRHF website by clicking here. All nominations meeting the eligibility criteria and received before the nomination deadline will be considered by the Nomination Committee of the appropriate breed.
A ballot of three finalists for each of the categories selected by the applicable Nomination Committee will be forwarded to the breed's Election Committee. The applicable Election Committee will vote by secret ballot to determine the inductees to be recognized as the Class of 2026.
Six categories will be selected for each breed. Should it be determined by the Nomination Committee of a breed to select five categories for either breed, the committee will identify one category to double up and induct two candidates, so a total of six inductees per breed is achieved.
Additionally, there will be one Legend inducted from each breed. The submission deadline for Legends, people or horses whose careers concluded 50+ years prior to induction, is Monday, March 9 at 5 p.m. EST.
Nominations submitted from 2023 through 2025 need not be re-submitted unless there are relevant biographical updates/changes for consideration by the Nomination Committee.

The categories selected to be recognized for each breed in 2026, along with the finalists in each category, will be announced on March 24, 2026.
The CHRHF Class of 2026, consisting of six Standardbred and six Thoroughbred inductees, plus one Legend inductee for each breed will be announced on April 8, 2026.
