Mr Cool Seaeyre N notched his fifth consecutive victory at Batavia Downs on Tuesday, Jan. 20, cutting the mile over a track rated good to improve to two-for-two in his 14-year-old season.
The son of The Pres-Viola Chiola reached the lead from post seven on the first turn, registered :29.2, 1:01, and 1:32 fractions, and held off Celtics Whitesoxin (Kyle Cummings) by a neck to win in 2:02.4. Jesmach Onyx (Ray Fisher Jr.) was third.
Mr Cool Seaeyre N raised his lifetime totals to 67 wins and $585,270 in earnings in 348 starts. Candace Brandstatter-Hall trains the gelding and shares ownership with Alex Brandstatter. The winner returned $3.18.
A race later, Kristen Torre earned her first training victory in her career debut as she won the fifth race with Albright ($9.34). Albright battled first-over from before the half and finished strongly for driver Drew Monti to win by three-quarters of a length in 2:01.4. Torre, a resident of East Bethany, N.Y., co-owns the four-year-old daughter of Cattlewash-Condoleeza with Andrew Torre.
Driving hat tricks registered by Monti and Kyle Cummings comprised six of the 12 wins charted on Tuesday afternoon, and two of those winners returned rather handsome mutuels.
Monti won the first of two co-featured $10,417 conditioned paces with April Hill High, who led at every station before turning for home and surging away by 4-3/4 lengths to win in 1:59.4. Arsenals Ladybug (Kyle Swift) was best of the rest, and Truly (Kyle Cummings) came third. April Hill High ($7.48) is owned by El Dorado Stables and Mike Torcello and is trained by Sam Smith. Monti, Smith and El Dorado hooked up again later for a picture with Mcnatural L (2:03), who surprised punters with a $31.54 payout. Monti kicked off his triple with Albright.
Kyle Cummings' first two wins came with Carl Cummings’ Mc Man (2:00.3, $4.04) and Tulsa Bell ($5.86, 2:02.1). He finished his triple with the overlooked Fashion On A Star (2:00.4), who paid a whopping $54.24. Tulsa Bell and Fashion On A Star comprised a training double for Tammy Cummings, who matched Sam Smith for top conditioning honours on Tuesday.
The other co-featured $10,417 pace was won by Ilikemebettor A (Matty Athearn), who got a live second-over tow behind Woodmere Fenn (Leon Bailey) in chase of Mach Silver (Brett Beckwith). He tipped off cover in the stretch and took off to the line, finishing in front by two lengths in 1:59.1, which was the fastest mile of the day that was fraught with frigid temperatures, 64 km/h wind gusts and persistent snow squalls. Mach Silver was second, followed by Woodmere Fenn. Ilikemebettor A ($6.54) is owned by Bob Kluchevitz and trained by Zach Gray.
Live racing will resume at Batavia Downs on Thursday at 3 p.m.
