Maryland Racing Commission Member John Franzone has called the state's harness and thoroughbred industries to work together to help craft a plan for the future. "If we don't come together with a unified plan, we're toast," he was
quoted as saying.
An article by The Baltimore Sun explains that Franzone's comments came yesterday during a MRC meeting. Along with his call for the two breeds to work together on a course for the future, he also said that racetrack officials and fellow MRC members would be involved in the process. He hopes the group can come up with legislative proposals for the state.
The report states that Franzone also wants to include the ultimate new owner of Rosecroft Raceway in the process, as well as Ocean Downs' William Rickman.
