Boxcar Payoffs At The CDP

Saturday’s matinee program at Red Shores Charlottetown didn’t prove to be a good day for the favourites, with just three post time choices taking the checkered flag

on the 14-race card. And for the piece de resistance, the finale was taken by a veteran who was sent off at odds of nearly 150-1!

Woodmere Quickpeek, who went 7-for-37 last season, pulled the pari-mutuel rabbit out of his hat for driver Gary Chappell and trainer Allan Jones.

Chappell played it cool with the 11-year-old son of Drop Off-Table Top Dancer by keeping him buried on the rail for most of the mile, and when room opened up in the stretch the longshot took advantage of the moment en route to posting the half-length triumph in 2:00.2.

One lucky fan (unless a pair of friends each kicked in a loonie and split the ticket) had faith in the gelding, and that $2 investment earned him/her a hefty return of $301.80!
