Teague Wins Freehold's Dr. King Pace

Nineteen-year-old Montrell Teague, son of world-class trainer George Teague, Jr., captured the second annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Pace this afternoon at Freehold

Raceway in New Jersey.

Up behind six-year-old Grinfromeartoear gelding Devils Grin, Teague and his mount went wire-to-wire in winning the first renewal of the memorial stakes event.

“To win this race is very significant to me and I am so happy to have done it,” the young Teague said.

Ohoka Qtee N, driven by Don Simmonds, finished two lengths behind the winner. Uncle Daddy, driven by George Polk, Jr., finished almost 10 lengths back from from the victor in third.

Devils Grin returned $3.00 to win, topped a $44.40 exacta, and spearheaded a $152.60 trifecta.

Live racing at Freehold Raceway will continue Saturday, and there will be a special holiday program on Monday, January 18. First-race post times for both days is 12:30 p.m.
