Benjamin Hanover took advantage of a perfect pocket trip from driver Tim Tetrick to capture the $36,232 Open Handicap Trot at Bally’s Dover on Tuesday, Jan.14.

The 1-5 favourite, Keg Stand (Ross Wolfenden), and Benjamin Hanover left together, trotting toward the quarter pole. Keg Stand cleared and released a parked-out Benjamin Hanover through an opening quarter in :27.4.

Keg Stand led the field of six trotters to the half in :57, while Platinum As (Allan Davis) launched a first-over bid up the backstretch. Chapheart (Pat Berry) followed second-over, tracking the outside cover.

Keg Stand continued to set the pace, reaching the three-quarter mark in 1:25.4. As the field turned for home, Chapheart circled three-wide at the top of the stretch. Benjamin Hanover waited patiently along the pylons, then surged late to win by a measured length in 1:54.4.

Platinum As finished second, while Resolve To Win (Corey Callahan) completed the top three.

Benjamin Hanover, a five-year-old gelding by Sebastian K S out of By A Neck Hanover, is trained by Scott DiDomenico and owned by Angela Cornell of Freeport, N.Y. The victory marked another impressive performance for the gelding, who paid $2.60 to win.

Racing resumes on Wednesday, Jan. 15 with a post time of 4:30 pm.
