Michigan trainer Greg Horn put on a clinic on Monday evening at Woodbine Racetrack sending out three starters and making three trips to the winner's circle
.
Horn, who is the latest of the many Michigan-based conditioners making a run for the border and doing well on the WEG circuit, got off on the right foot winning with Prince Rave in Race 2. The four-year-old son of Towners Big Guy eked out a half-length score in 1:54.3 for driver Sylvain Filion.
Horn made a round trip to victory lane thanks to his triumph in Race 3 with Jet Fueled, who got the drive of the night from Sylvain Filion. Filion, who won the first three races on the card, stick-handled through traffic en route to posting the 1:54.4 tally with the six-year-old altered son of Jet Laag who was sent off as a 12-1 outsider.
The night finished off with a bang for Horn who watched his training triple come to fruition thanks to a very impressive off-the-pace score by Onemorelastchance and driver Keith Oliver in Race 9. Sitting eighth on the outside with the final quarter remaining, the four-year-old son of Towners Big Guy kicked it into overdrive in the lane and drew clear to win by a comfortable margin in 1:53.
Horn wasn’t the only one smiling at the end of the night – so was fellow Michigander Diane Stephenson. The resident of Carleton holds the ownership papers on all three of the pacers. The barn is 4-for-6 to start the 2010 campaign, and it has banked $42,000 in the process. Not a bad haul considering the stable won 27 races last season for purse earnings of just over $146,000.
