Chalk up yet another successful moth for 'instant racing' at Kentucky Downs
.
According to a report by the Lexington Herald-Leader, the slots-like gaming terminals where players wager on 'historical' or previously-run races saw a 16.58 per cent increase in wagering in December, 2011 compared to November, 2011 (the machines took in $9.8 million in December).
The article states that a large majority of the handle on the instant racing machines heads back to the bettors in form of winnings.
Since Kentucky Downs starting offering the instant racing option to its patrons four months ago, the machines have allowed the state to receive a solid infusion to its general fund, while purses and breeders' incentives have also received a financial boost courtesy of the machines.
