On Wednesday, April 8, 1992, Flamboro Downs became the first track in Canadian harness racing to race with a passing lane
.
Gran Premier was the first horse to score a victory on that card by using the passing lane. Billy Budd was the winning driver for the one mile pace in 2:01.3. Gran Premier paid $149.80 to win.

Of note, Bob Bratina is now the mayor of Hamilton and has been vocal in his support of a casino for downtown Hamilton.
In this week's SC web poll, we're asking if passing lanes should be featured on certain track sizes, all track sizes, or not at all.

I think the passing is a good thing I would rather see a passing lane the a trailing horse all horses should be on the starting gate to get a fair start. The passing lane at least gives a chance to trailing horses
I agree with Norm...

The best thing they ever did
The best thing they ever did to a 1/2 mile track!!

I think the passing lane is a good thing. It allows the trapped inside horses a fair chance to come up the rail. This allows for a more competitive race for the horse, driver, and better!
