Just imagine guiding a horse to the wire first and ending a personal 12-year winless drought. Then, imagine your reward being a 52-day ban
.
This situation recently played out after a steeplechase contest at Uttoxeter racecourse on New Year's Eve.
The British Horse Racing Authority today handed amateur jockey Robert Cooper a 52-day ban for striking his mount 23 times --- 14 strikes of which came after the final hurdle.
A total of eight strikes with the riding crop are allowed during a race under BHA rules.

They have to be kidding!!!
They have to be kidding!!! Do they think they are hurting this guy? He's an amateur for one...and going winless for 12 years tells me he probably doesn't ride more than a handful of starts every year. Do they think after 1 win he's suddenly going to be named to ride in every race??? If they wanted to punish him, they should have taken the win from him.
'Course you think he might
'Course you think he might have got a bit excited about winning for the first time in 12 years???
Then. again, the article says he's an "Amateur" rider. How many rides did he have in those 12 years? Maybe this was his first ride in 12 years, too!
Maybe he should just leave the riding to the "Pros" who know the rules!
he should have known better.
he should have known better.
