Hall of Fame driver Ron Pierce headed to Sudbury Downs on Wednesday night during his spare time between this year's Breeders Crown eliminations and finals taking place at Toronto's Woodbine Racetrack and dominated the nine-race card
.
Pierce, who took part in a meet and greet session with fans prior to the card, earned his first of five wins in the third race with Abigail Eden ($9.30) for trainer Jamie Wilson and headed right back to the winner's circle after guiding the Marvin Frank-conditioned Passion R Virginie ($4.60) to victory in the following race. Pierce also scored back-to-back wins in the sixth and seventh races with Flight Night ($4.30) for France MacLean and Chasing Connor ($5.40) for Mike Noble, and later concluded the card with his fifth win aboard the Noble-trained Digam ($3.40).
Pierce is just 12 victories away from reaching the 8,000-win career milestone and has banked over $182 million in purses placing him third on harness racing's lifetime earnings list. He has earned over $11.1 million this year and is among the top 10 drivers in North America for wins in 2011 having won 416 races.
On Saturday, he will drive Pirouette Hanover, I Fought Dalaw, Magic Tonight, Ticket To Rock, Spectator K, Cedar Dove, Roll With Joe and We Will See in the $6 million-plus Breeders Crown championships at Woodbine.
