One of harness racing's top drivers will be making a guest appearance at Ontario's most northern track on Wednesday night

.

Hall of Famer Ron Pierce confirmed with Trot Insider that he will drive at Sudbury Downs on Wednesday, October 26. Pierce will be in town as part of a vacation between this year's Breeders Crown eliminations and finals.

"I wanted to take the week off, I've never been in that part of the country and never raced there before. I've been up to Sault Ste. Marie before but never that far north. It looks like it will be right up my alley."

Pierce will head up to the Sudbury area on Sunday morning after competing in Saturday night's Breeders Crown eliminations at Woodbine Racetrack.

"After racing horses all year, it's nice to be able to look back on the year and recall doing something relaxing as well. I called up the track and told them I'd like to be there and give something back to sport that's been so good to me."

A noted lover of the outdoors and not one to go to the gym to stay in shape, Pierce hopes to get in some cliff climbing during his week off before returning to Toronto for the Breeders Crown finals next Saturday.

Fans are advised to arrive early as Sudbury will host a meet and greet with Pierce from 6:30 to 6:50 p.m. in the grandstand and will also be giving away autographed Ron Pierce photographs.

Third on harness racing's career earnings list among drivers with more than $182 million in purses, Pierce is listed in eight of nine races on Sudbury's Wednesday card. To view Wednesday's entries, click the following link: Wednesday Entries - Sudbury Downs.

Best of luck Rockin' Ronnie...should be a real treat getting to drive against the likes of Joey Kanish and the likes lol

Great to see and who in heck cares if it is a tax write off or not. I hope it is. That way it is a win, win for the track and Ronnie.

It's a nice gesture for Ronnie.

However and just for perspective. . .

If he drives while he's in the Sudbury area, than he's allowed a portion of the expenses on his tax return.
Do other people get reimbursed for their recreation?

Many horsemen in the US go home (to other states)and visit their families at Christmas time and bring a horse or two with them to race at their local home tracks for the same expense justification.

Wow! Great gesture, from Rockin Ronnie. If you only go one night to Sudbury Downs, this is the time to do it! I'll be there bringing up the handle.

Very classy move! Ronnie will drive every race up there like its a breeders crown final too!

GREAT gesture to take the time to showcase Sudbury. Wish you the best of luck. I am sure you will fit in with the free spirits up there !!!
