It’s hard to imagine racing for nothing but bragging rights. On Prince Edward Island though, a non-wagering, not-for-profit circuit known casually as matinee racing has been going strong for many years. With the series final scheduled every year in September, now is the perfect time to reconsider how – and why – such a fan-focused circuit can be so successful, season after season. By Nicholas Oakes
