Scene A Magician overcame post seven to remain undefeated this year as he captured the $5,200 Preferred 3 Handicap Trot in impressive fashion at Hiawatha Horse Park on Saturday, June 28.
The gelding refused a three-hole tuck heading into the first turn and instead marched on, advancing on the outside through a :28.1 first quarter to take the lead passing the stands. Robert Doyle gave the gelding a breather to the half in :58.3, and Scene A Magician cruised to three-quarters in 1:28.1. The break of the first-over Dark Hammock Road (Lorne House) left only pocket-sitter Rose Run Zeb (Don Rankin Jr.) in contention on the final turn, and Scene A Magician trotted away from him and the rest of the field to a dominant three-length victory in 1:58.1. Riversdream (Nat Day) closed for second, getting up over Global News (Garrett Rooney) in a three-across place photo.
Scene A Magician is now three-for-three this year for owner-trainer Jennifer Pinkerton of Mount Brydges, Ont. The 11-year-old gelding scratched sick last week and returned to action after 19 days away in Saturday’s win. He earned his 36th career victory and increased his lifetime earnings to $404,816 in his 155th appearance. He paid $12.60 to win.
