Post Time with Dan Gall

We recently had our last Board meeting of 2018, and it saw a full agenda and approvals from the board for management to continue its work.

The following outcomes were approved by the Board: the fiscal 2019 Budget, the 5 Year Strategic Plan, the 2019 Strategic Plan, the Standardbred Canada Values Proposition and the acceptance of bylaw amendments that will go to our members for approval later this year.

The Board also nominated Darlene Kidd Bailey as Corporate Secretary in addition to her current role of Executive Assistant. Congratulations Darlene!

There was a lot of hard work and effort that the association committed to last year to get where we currently are. The board spent a great deal of time designing the five year strategic plan (which you can read the narrative, both in this month's TROT Magazine (Pg. 61) and online), as well as reviewing the current governance and bylaws of our association, which identified areas that the association needs to update to remain current and active as a not-for-profit association.

The 2019 strategic plan, approved by the board, will focus on our long term priorities, which are; Communications, Data Governance, Financial Sustainability, Member/Customer Service Value and Stakeholder Relations.

Some of the key tactics that Standardbred Canada will be executing this year will be:

  • The development of a Data Governance policy that benefits our members, stakeholders and association.

  • Website redevelopment for standardbredcanada.ca.

  • Offer members more online services.

  • Review re-location opportunities that will be beneficial to the association.

  • Complete the Gaitway project that we have been managing for the past several years.

The above are just some of the tactics that have been identified for 2019.

This year will be an ambitious year for the organization, with the emphasis on change and renewal. With the commitment of our employees, the management team, and our board, we are confident that these deliverables are more than realistic and attainable.

From all of us at Standardbred Canada, we wish you a prosperous, and most importantly, a healthy new year, and hope to see you at the Annual General Meeting and the 30th annual O'Brien Awards in February.
