A Grandfather’s Prophecy; A Young Driver’s Ascent

When Brett Beckwith’s grandfather, Jerry Silverman, entered the U.S. Hall of Fame in 2019, in his acceptance speech he told listeners that his grandson was the one to watch for - a 16-year-old with a tremendous future in the racebike. Now, at age 22, Brett leads the driving standings at The Meadowlands, Plainridge and Saratoga, but it’s not necessarily all as rosy as it may seem. Driving horses comes with pressure, and when the driver puts most of that pressure on themself, things can sometimes spiral. Brett may be young, but he’s also wise, and he knows that coming from a family that has battled mental health issues, he sometimes needs to slow down and put himself first. By John Rallis.
