Trot Insider has learned that longtime standardbred horse owner Todd Janik of Tecumseh, Ont. passed away surrounded by his family at his residence on Sun
day, September 6. He was 87.
Co-owner of WJJ Stables, Janik owned horses that raced in Ontario Sires Stakes events in the 1980s and '90s. Among others, Janik's horses were trained by John Drennan, Reg Mulholland and Jo-Dee Brown.
Predeceased by his wife, Paula, Janik leaves behind sons and daughters Al (Kristen), Marilyn (John Holland), Carol (John Fulop), Catherine (Paul Weatherall), and Richard (Julie).
During World War II he served Canada in Europe with the Royal Canadian Electrical and Mechanical Engineers. He was instrumental in the establishment of the Canadian Tooling Manufacturers' Association and was a past member of the Society of Manufacturing Engineers.
Visitation will be taking place Tuesday, September 8 from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. and Wednesday, September 9 from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. and 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. at the Marcotte Funeral Home and Chapel, 12105 Tecumseh Road, Tecumseh (519-735-2830).
Visitation will resume after 9:00 a.m. on Thursday, September 10, 2009 at Good Shepherd Parish, St. Gregory Site, 13789 St. Gregory Road, until the time of the mass at 10:00 a.m.
Interment at Heavenly Rest Cemetery.
