The California Horse Racing Board (CHRB) is accepting applications for the position of executive director.
The deadline is September 27, 2013, for candidates to submit an application, resume, and Statement of Qualifications to the CHRB headquarters office in Sacramento, but should the Board determine that more time is necessary to identify suitable candidates, the Board may act accordingly.
The salary for the position is $8,976 - $10,000 per month, plus benefits. The executive director’s duties require travel throughout the state while fulfilling the CHRB mission to regulate horse racing in California.

A successful candidate will be a strong leader and have experience as a top-level administrator in a governmental agency or equivalent level in the private sector. It is preferred that the successful candidate have knowledge of the horse-racing industry. Desirable characteristics include creativity and innovation, credibility and integrity, good communication skills, and the vision to understand the context and mission of the CHRB and how to achieve strategic plans.
A selection committee comprised of CHRB Vice Chairman Chuck Winner (chair) and CHRB Chairman David Israel will review and screen all applications submitted and may interview candidates with the most competitive experience and background.
Kirk E. Breed served as executive director from February 26, 2008 until his death August 7, 2013.
