Despite having the largest Pick 4 pool of the 2014 season at over $11,200 on Sunday evening (August 31), fans were only able to come up with three of four winners in the wager, creating a $6,347 carryover into the Thursday night card (September 4) at the Red Mile.
The sequence began with a second choice, Noha (driven by Brad Hanners), who returned $7 for the win in an overnight event, followed by 4-5 favourite Tinder (Tyler Smith) who won his third consecutive by taking the $175,000 Kentucky Sires Stakes Final for three-year-old colt trotters.
Even with the large amount of live tickets heading into the third leg after the formful beginning, it didn’t take long to send everyone overboard, as Always A Tiger advanced up the inside for a nose victory over the off track at 65-1 ($132.80) for Driver Don Harmon.
With only the one longshot, there were zero live tickets heading into the fourth and final leg, and even the 3-2 favourite, Fudge (Dave Palone), could not aid anyone in making a big score after an easy victory.
The Red Mile, in conjunction with the USTA Strategic Wagering Program, is happy to announce the Pick 4 will have a $20,000 Guaranteed Pool for Thursday evening (September 4).
The Pick 4 is a nightly wager covering Races 6 – 9, with a minimum of $1. The Pick 4 features a guaranteed pool of $5,000 every Sunday night.
Live racing continues at the Red Mile on Thursday and Sunday evenings with a first post of 7 p.m. Grand Circuit racing begins Thursday, September 25.
