The popular drivers, bike race returns to Batavia Downs on Labour Day, Monday, September 7, as part of the holiday harness racing matinee. First-race post time for the 12-dash card is 1:15 p.m.
All patrons entering the track between 12:00 noon and 2:30 p.m. will receive an entry form on which to guess which of eight harness drivers will win a bicycle race conducted on the Batavia Downs track after the seventh race.
Entry forms will then be deposited by the patron in one of eight sealed boxes representing each of the drivers. Following the bicycle race, eight names will be drawn at random from the box of the winning driver. Those eight fans will each win one of the eight bikes used in the bicycle race. Winners must be present to win.
Last year’s winner, Denny Bucceri, will be back to defend his title. Drivers participating for the first time include Ray Fisher, Jr., Jimmy Whisman and Lee Dahn.
“The drivers' bike race has become very popular over the years,” said Todd Haight, promotion-marketing specialist at Batavia. “The tradition started in 1981. It’s a quarter-mile race and the drivers have a lot of fun competing against one another."
