The half-mile oval at the Delaware Ohio County Fair is renowned for being lightning-fast, but due to recent rains the raceway has the possibility of playing a little slower

.

A release from the Little Brown Jug's publicity arm has stated that the track will be lightning-fast today (Tuesday, September 20) if the sun pops up in the afternoon, due to the work of track consultant Greg Coon and his track crew.

“We knew in advance that the rain was coming, so on Monday we rolled the track with empty trucks to compact the surface so that the track could shed water," Coon was quoted as saying in the release. "Unfortunately, Monday’s rain was a slow-soaking drizzle.

“This morning (Tuesday) the top quarter-inch was soaking wet. So, we put rubber blades on the graders. They were like giant squeegies. We wiped the saturated sand off the top surface and put a fresh cushion down. All we need now is for the sun to come out with some fresh wind.”

The Tuesday, September 20 program of live racing at the fair kicked off at 12:00 noon.
