Clouthier Speaking Engagement Nears

Trot Insider has learned that Hector ‘Hec’ Clouthier, the former executive director of the now-defunct Ontario Horse Racing Industry Association, will be the focus of an upcoming edition of the OB-MLC’s ‘Governance Speakers’ Series 2017.’

The ‘Evening with Hec Cloutier’ event will take place on Thursday, September 21 at the HMCS Bytown Naval Officers' Mess, Crow’s Nest (78 Lisgar St, Ottawa, Ont.).

The former MP for Renfrew-Nipissing-Pembroke (1997-2000) will be speaking at the event which will take place from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m.

Clouthier was a maverick politician, a small man with a big hat and bigger ambitions. He has written a dishy maverick’s memoir, ‘Give ‘Em Hec,’ full of horses and guns, fightin’ and cussin’, grudges and treachery — great stuff to spill in this first lecture of OB-MLC’s 2017 speakers program.

Clouthier shot his first moose at age 13, ran 35 marathons, quit ‘boozing’ in 1984 before things got messy, met Nelson Mandela, George Bush and The Queen, raced horses, adored his father, lamented the early death of his mother, and raised three sons with wife, Debbie.

Unmistakable in his signature fedora, Hec was the memorable MP for Renfrew-Nipissing-Pembroke from 1997 until 2000, but his political career spanned nearly 30 years, concluding with an unsuccessful run as an independent in 2015.

The September 21 event costs $15 per person. Please register with Mary at [email protected] or 613-247-1459.
