Trot Insider has learned that retired trotter Twin B Sporty passed away peacefully at the age of 23 on Monday, Aug. 30 at the Harley, Ont. family farm of owners Richard and June Farrell.
Trained by Paul Farrell and Richard Farrell throughout his career, Twin B Sporty won 44 races and earned 31 seconds and 39 thirds from 246 starts, along with $422,255 in purses. The Ontario Sires Stakes graduate competed across the province and was a regular in the Preferred ranks at Western Fair Raceway, where he took his mark of 1:57.3 in 2006 during a seven-win campaign as an eight-year-old.
Twin B Sporty was a winner from start to finish. He bookended his racing career with victories, breaking his maiden when debuting on August 12, 2000 in the OSS Grassroots Series at Hanover Raceway and going out a winner on July 3, 2012 at Woodstock Raceway, where he had etched his name in the record books seven years prior.
The son of Earl out Keystone Snappy shares the 1:57.4 Woodstock track record for older trotting stallions (with Semper Fi Hall) that he matched in May 2005.
Twin B Sporty was well loved by the Farrell family. The feisty trotter never passed on his favourite treats of carrots and apples, or an opportunity to nip at anyone that walked past his stall.
Please join Standardbred Canada in offering condolences to the connections of Twin B Sporty.
