Trot Insider has learned that Surrey, BC resident Muriel Fornwald, breeder of all 'Nazko' horses and many of the 'Red Star' horses, passed away peacefully on Saturday
, August 21. She was 90.
Fornwold won many awards over the years, including Breeder of the Year twice. In her career, she bred winners of both Colt of the Year and Filly of the Year honours in western Canada.
One of the top standardbreds which Fornwold bred was Nazko Promise p,4,1:52f ($352,531), who in 58 career starts compiled a record of 24-13-10.
Fornwold was very active in breeding the standardbred horse and was committed to breed excellence for over 40 years. She is survived by her son, Albert Ball and wife Jayne Ball, her son, Norman Ball and wife Dianne Ball, grandchildren Cory, Jessica, Shawn and Chris.

We were so sorry to hear of Muriel Fornwald's passing! She was so energetic and loved her horses and farm so. She was still canning and making jam and cookies especially for charity. What a worker and class act that lady was!
Whatever will Sammy her faithful companion dog do now that his beloved mistress has left him? Hope he is well. May God bless her and give her rest.

Just to let you know Sammy is doing well she lives with Bert and I in Barkerville. And has reunited with her old barn mates Bud and Brandy.

The Memorial will be Oct 1st the first day of Racing she will be honored By a race being named for her and all the drivers will come out on the field and give a moment of silence. Then we will all be having dinner in the clubhouse. Jayne
