Trot Insider has learned that Best Risque p, 7, 1:53.3 ($240,141), one of the top mares in Atlantic Canada over the past four seasons, has passed away at the age of 11.
Best Risque, a daughter of Cammibest out of Risque Business, has passed after having recently sustained an injury while racing at Red Shores’ Charlottetown Driving Park.
From 276 lifetime starts, Best Risque recorded 62 wins, 60 second-place finishes and 40 thirds. She banked $240,131 in purse earnings and took her lifetime mark of 1:53.3 at the age of seven over Mohawk Racetrack.
More recently, Best Risque established herself as one of the top Open Mares in Atlantic Canada. Over the past four racing seasons she won 23 races, recorded 17 second-place finishes and 18 thirds from 94 Maritime starts. During that span she banked just short of $45,000 in purse earnings and also won in 1:56.1 with several of her charted lines also in the 1:55 range.
Best Risque is co-owned and trained by Brian Ladner as well as co-owners Lillian and Kevin Ladner, all of Charlottetown, PEI.

Was watching the race Best Risque got injured... so sad. She gave her heart & soul every race & would always love watching her race in PEI... great mare. So sorry to hear about the loss. Maybe next year at Old Home Week they should have a race in her memory. Let's have the Best Risque Memorial Pace.
