Virginia's Shenandoah Downs would like to remind horsepeople that racing applications for the upcoming fall harness season are available online and due to the racing office by this coming Monday, Aug. 5.

A seven-week meet will run from Sept. 14 to Oct. 27 with racing scheduled every Saturday and Sunday at 1:05 p.m. A total of $750,000 USD in overnight purse monies will be distributed over the 14 race days. The Virginia Breeder's races for two and three-year-old pacers and trotters of both sexes will be conducted during the fall campaign as well via both elimination races (from Sept. 28 to Oct. 30) and a closing day championship card (Oct. 27) featuring eight divisional title matches. Horses will compete for $300,000 USD in the eliminations and $640,000 USD in the finals. The aged Virginia Breeder's races, worth $80,000 USD, will be contested closing day as well.

Racing applications can be submitted online this year for the first time at shenandoahdowns.com and can be accessed under the "Horsemen" header. More information is available by calling 540-459-4807 or by e-mailing [email protected]

The track is conveniently located at the Shenandoah County Fairgrounds off I-81 at Exit 283 in the scenic Shenandoah Valley, halfway between Winchester and Harrisonburg.

In addition to the fall campaign, a four-day non-wagering meet will take place at the same site from Aug. 28-31 during the Shenandoah County Fair. Post time each day is 12 noon.
