Harrah's Philadelphia was forced to cancel the remainder of its live harness racing program after the third race on Thursday, July 9 due to weather.
Lately the weather has not been kind to Harrah’s Philadelphia or the horsepeople racing at the southeast Pennsylvania oval. The track had to cancel last Thursday and Friday’s programs because of the excessive heat; racing did take place on Sunday, but then, in its opening card of the week on Thursday, the rain started before the card, and three races over a “sloppy” surface were held. The rain intensified, and a check of the local weather radar showed no relief in sight soon, so Harrah’s Philadelphia was forced to abandon the remaining 12 races on the program.
And even under these restrictions, Tim Tetrick managed to widen his lead atop the Harrah’s driving derby, winning two of the three races held before the cancellation.
No rain is in Friday’s forecast until well past the scheduled time of the last race, so that day’s program, featuring the third preliminary of the Pennsylvania Sire Stakes and Stallion Series for three-year-old trotting fillies, should be a “go” with a start time of 12:40 p.m.
