The I Love Canadian Harness Racing Fan Club would like to congratulate Chelsea Chase of DeWinton, Alberta for winning the June Zoom Challenge, ‘Driver Fever.’
For the month of June we chose ‘Driver Fever’ as the theme to celebrate the Regional Driving Championships and Fan Club members were asked for photos of their favorite drivers in action.
Chase submitted this photo of Come On Kathryn and Jim Marino taken at Century Downs Racetrack & Casino, near Calgary, Alberta.
“I try not to always concentrate on the same person/stable/horse; I like to get as much of everyone as I can,” said Chelsea. “Marino was scoring down during a post parade and it was the right time and right place for me.”
Come On Kathryn is trained by Ashleigh Hensley. “Ashleigh`s horses are some of my favourites to snap pictures of as the pink (harness) stands out so well,” Chelsea explained.
Chase grew up in the industry, which has been like a second family to her. She has had the opportunity to work for many great trainers like Rod Starkewski, Keith Clark, Jim Martin and Gerry Hudon, to name a few. She is currently working at Century Downs for Hudon where they have 16 horses stabled. She also owns two retired Standardbreds which are now saddle horses, and is training one to race in the upcoming Under Saddle Pace being held at Century Downs in August.
