Trot Insider has learned that longtime horseman Brian Hodgson of Woodstock, Ont. passed away on Wednesday, July 20 at the age of 64.
A popular trainer and driver in Southwestern Ontario from the late 1970s through the 1980s, Hodgson shifted shifted his focus to mostly training around the start of the 2000s. As a driver, Hodgson won more than 1,100 races (the majority of which came prior to 1996) with horses earning more than $2 million.
Horses trained by Hodgson won 427 races and earned more than $2.1 million. His most recent standout was Open class pacing mare Pink Kangaroo, who co-held the track record for older pacing mares at Mohawk Racetrack in 2009 by virtue of her 1:49.3s lifetime best score.

I was very sorry to hear about Brian's passing. I worked for Brian back in the eighties at Flamboro, and
Western Fair, and trained a small stable of 4 horses for him at Windsor. He was a great guy to work for who taught me a lot. A wonderful horseman who ran a good stable. Rest in peace, Brian.
