Allamerican Native, a Dan Patch Award winner as a two-year-old in 2002 and earner of nearly $1.5 million in his career, passed away on Monday, July 14 at the age of 25.
Bernie Cave, the head of the pacing stallion’s syndicate, indicated that Allamerican Native was euthanized on Monday, July 14 after suffering complications from colic.
Outside of stints from 2014 through 2017 for the breeding season at Hagemeyer Farms in Ohio, Allamerican Native spent the past 12 years at Cave’s farm in Campbellsville, Ky.
Bred by Lew Arno and Fred Hertrich III, Allamerican Native (Presidential Ball-Armbro Nashville) won 13 of 29 lifetime races. His victories in 2002 included the Woodrow Wilson and Governor’s Cup for trainer Mark Capone, and he finished second in the Breeders Crown. The following season, he finished a dead-heat second in the North America Cup and established his career mark of 1:49.4 in winning the consolation division of the Meadowlands Pace.
As a stallion, Allamerican Native sired the winners of $39.1 million, most notably 2007 Dan Patch Award winning filly A And Gsconfusion, who earned $1.48 million in her career. He also sired Sprig Hanover, the dam of 2017 U.S. Pacer of the Year Downbytheseaside, and Sayo Hanover, the dam of millionaire filly Sassa Hanover.
“He was my buddy,” Cave said. “When I walked out of the house with his bucket of feed, he nickered every time I started toward him. I’m going to miss that.”
Please join Standardbred Canada in offering condolences to the connections of Allamerican Native.
