I was fortunate to have known
I was fortunate to have known Doug for many years while racing at both Rideau and Connaught park. There was no one in the business that I respected more than Doug. Doug was an accomplished trainer/driver, blacksmith and most of all a father and mentor. Many times Doug would shoe 10 or more horses during the day and then be back, always with a smile on his face and race 6 or 7 horses in the evening. He always came with his game face on but was respectful of his peers. You could always count on Doug for advise or just engage in conversation on many topics. He would always listen. The industry has lost a great horseman and friend. RIP Doug.
