'Astronomical' Headlines CDP Card

Published: June 26, 2013 04:09 pm EDT

Astronomical Union will look to land himself in the winner’s circle in the Thursday night feature at Red Shores' Charlottetown Driving Park on June 27.

The 12-dash card has a 7:00 p.m. first-race post time, and the $1,650 feature has been carded as Race 11. Astronomical Union has drawn Post 3 in the eight-horse affair. Marc Campbell will be in the bike for owner Reg MacPherson of Stratford and trainer Kevin MacLean.

Astronomical Union, a gelded son of Astronomical, was second his last start in 1:57.2 and appears to be facing similar company this week. Acton O So Royal was a bang-up second in 1:56 last Thursday for trainer-driver Mark Bradley and has drawn Post 5 for this week's test. West River Wonder gave herself a new speed badge last Thursday (1:57.3) for trainer-driver Steven Shepherd.

Other entries in the feature include Blue Star Outlaw (to be driven by Jason Hughes), Unstoppable Speed (Mike McGuigan), CL Eighty (Kenny Arsenault), Miracle Matts (Blois MacPhail), and Oakrock Almighty (Ron Matheson).

Also on the card, Gilles Barrieau has made his move to Prince Edward Island for the summer racing season and will drive in his first overnight event of 2013 on the Island. Barrieau will compete in Race 10 with Panacotta from Post 1 for trainer Blaine Baglole and owner Shane Baglole of Cornwall.

The evening's $1,100 trotting event will line up for Race 3. JK Queen (Walter Cheverie) is the likely favourite from Post 4. Joe Smallwood of Stratford owns and trains JK Queen. Her main competition looks to come from Dee Dee Pucker and trainer-driver Jason Hughes from Post 6. The four-year-old mare trotted her last mile in 2:01.4.

Racing will continue on P.E.I. with a 6:00 p.m. card Saturday night at the CDP, and cards at Red Shores' Summerside Raceway on Sunday and Monday with 1:00 p.m. start times.
