Meadowlands players will likely have bonus money to aim at in the Pick 4 pool this Saturday
.
For the first time in 2010, the Meadowlands Pick 4 fell short of the guaranteed pool amount on Saturday, June 19. The Meadowlands Pick 4 offers a $75,000 guaranteed pool every Saturday, but only $71,972 was wagered last weekend, resulting in an additional $3,028 being added to the pool. Another shortfall is a strong possibility for Saturday, June 26.
With the $1.5 million Pepsi North America Cup to be held at Mohawk Racetrack on Saturday, many of the regular Meadowlands drivers will be in Canada for the big stakes action.
"The Pick 4 guarantee is never really in jeopardy except for a couple of weekends in June," said assistant vice president of racing development and distribution Alex Dadoyan. "During the winter, we easily surpass the $75,000 guarantee amount, as the average pool size is up over $100,000. But this time of year, as the harness racing spotlight shifts north of the border, we have traditionally experienced some of our softer pool totals of the year."
The corresponding weekend last year saw $59,784 wagered in the Meadowlands Pick 4 pool, the smallest total of the 2009 season.
"There's probably going to be another opportunity for Meadowlands Pick 4 players to get a little bonus money this weekend," Dadoyan continued. "Ultimately it becomes a good way for us to reward our regular, loyal players during one or two of the quieter weekends in the season."
Bettors can also take a shot at the Metro 6 Shooter, which features $30,000 added to the net pool, on Saturday. The Pick 6 wager challenges bettors to select the winners of four races at Meadowlands Racetrack and two at Yonkers Raceway.
