The New Brunswick Standardbred Breeders and Owners Association has announced that it is organizing an agricultural fair this Saturday (June 27) in Saint John in the hopes of demonstrating the extent of the economic and real-world impact of a successful, and conversely unsuccessful, harness racing industry.
The event will take place from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. The NBSBOA is asking horsepeople to join in and help show both the public and the current government just what is involved in preparing and supporting a horse in harness racing. The organization is hoping that industry participants will attend and play a part in showing just what it is they do and how they and the Standardbred community are linked.
The event will take place on the track at Exhibition Park Raceway, weather permitting. Organizers are envisioning a set up that walks all visitors through the continuum of the industry, from breeding all the way to race day.
Saturday will be a great opportunity to educate everyone on horsepeople’s roles in the continuum, and also, potentially, to reach out to a new customer base that may not have otherwise been aware of what horsepeople have to offer.
Organizers are hoping that participants will contribute to event by setting up a display and having representatives on hand to answer questions and inform everyone who attends as to the extent to which the racing industry impacts the economy – both large and small business – in New Brunswick.
If you would like to take part in the event (or have questions), please contact NBSBOA President Sam Hodgin ([email protected] or 506-647-1888).
