TROT 4 Kids will be taking part in Toronto Horse Day at the Horse Palace at Exhibition Place in Toronto this Saturday, June 6.

Horse Day, scheduled from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. is a free, one-day public event designed to educate people of all ages about horses and provides visitors with the opportunity to experience horses up close and personal. The event features breed and discipline demonstrations, interactive exhibits, equine games and activities, special guests and much more.

Driver Scott Young will be on hand from 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. to meet and greet the kids at the TROT 4 Kids booth and talk to them about what it’s like to be a harness racing driver.

At the age of ten, Scott knew he wanted to be a catch driver. He was helping his dad, Bob, jog and train horses. "It was always a dream to win the big races and my favourite race was the Little Brown Jug.”

Now 23, Scott is well on his way to living his dream, and posting some pretty impressive stats. Since 2010, the Kitchener resident has driven in over 200 races annually, and banked over $135,000 in earnings each season. In 2014 he fell just shy of 100 wins with 98 trips to the winner’s circle and drove horses to $654,000 in earnings, but considered it his best season of driving.

So far this year, he’s made 34 trips to the winner’s circle and driven horses to over $300,000 in purse money. Almost half way through his sixth season of driving, he has amassed 346 career wins and over $2.76 million in career earnings.

The T4K booth will also have horseshoes, equipment, driving colours and loads of other interesting racing items for the kids to take a look at! There will be FREE T4K activity books, magazines and tattoos for the kids and FREE Trot magazines for the parents.

Toronto Horse Day will also celebrate the upcoming Toronto 2015 Pan American Games. Features will include riding demonstrations showcasing the Pan Am equestrian disciplines, Pan Am themed activities and crafts, opportunities to sign banners for the riders who will be represent Canada at the Pan Am Games, and much more!

The Ontario Equestrian Federation is the host of Toronto Horse Day and wants to reach out to aspiring riders, drivers and handlers and help them turn an interest into a lifetime passion.

Now in its seventh year, Ontario Horse Day is a province-wide initiative that was started by the Ontario Equestrian Federation (OEF) to introduce the public to horses in a safe, fun environment. The OEF encourages clubs and stables across the province to mark the day by hosting their own activities that coincide with official events in Toronto and Ottawa.
