Arc Light Looking For More

The best mares racing on Canada's eastern seaboard will hook up again this Thursday evening (June 18) in the featured event at Red Shores Racetrack and Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park.

The $2,900 Fillies and Mares Open Pace headlines the 10-dash card that has a first race post time of 6 p.m.

The Marc Campbell stable has won the Fillies and Mares Open Pace the first two weeks of the season, and Arc Light will put her short undefeated streak to the test from Post 6. Adam Merner will pick up the catch drive behind Arc Light for owner Grayland Farm of Gulf Shore, Nova Scotia. The four-year-old daughter of Camystic has found the winner’s circle both weeks of the new season. Campbell will elect to drive stablemate Dreamfair Zenfire from Post 2 after having won the Fillies and Mares Open Pace with the newcomer on June 4. Berazzled has been knocking on the door with a pair of runner-up finishes since having moved east, and will again have Mike McGuigan at the lines from Post 5 for trainer Jonah Moase.

Race analyst Les MacIsaac has sided with the preferable post position of Dreamfair Zenfire, as he has placed her on top of his ticket.

“Dreamfair Zenfire’s modest winning streak was halted last week, but she still turned in a solid effort,” MacIsaac said. “Moves a couple of spots to her left for this one and is reunited with Marc, who's red hot, so we'll treat her as the one to beat.”

Also in the class are Miss Kabana (to be driven by Vincent Poulton), Much Adoo (Brodie MacPhee), Woodmere Chella (David Dowling) and Southwind Ion (Jason Hughes).

The program's $2,300 'back-up class' will line up for the evening's finale (Race 10). The eight-horse tilt appears to be a wide open affair. Killean Finale has been selected as the morning line choice from Post 6 for driver Ken Murphy, trainer Clifford Murphy and owners Dr. Mary McNiven and Pacemaker Stable of Nine Mile Creek. Falls Creek will make her east coast debut from Post 5 with Campbell in the bike for new trainer Bo Ford. The Badlands Hanover mare won her last outing in the $7,000 claiming class in February at Rideau Carleton Raceway.
