Prominent Prince Edward Island standardbred owner and breeder Louis McIsaac, Fairview , passed away peacefully Thursday, May 3, 2012, at the Palliative Care Unit, Prince Edward Home, Charlottetown, at the age of 74

. Mr. McIsaac had been an owner and breeder for five decades, and was one of the most familiar faces in Maritime harness racing. Horses he owned or bred competed in every stakes race in the region, and he had been one of the longest serving consignors to regional yearling sales.

He started his involvement in harness racing with his late cousin Francis, racing in the 1960's with horses such as Al Harvester, Hilltop Star, and Little Ann Marie, then went on to bred or own Touch Of Lightning, Cabana, Too Too Breeze, Acesnassets, Latorraca, Smile If You Cam, and Royal Situation, among many more. His greatest success came with the home bred Molzan, a multiple Maritime stakes winner who earned over $396,000 lifetime.

Mr. McIsaac is survived by his wife Bernice, daughter Joan (Rocky) Henstridge, sons Donald (an active owner and trainer in Ontario), Mike, and Terry (Jennifer) Farm Manager at Meridian Farms West in Alberta. He is also survived by his grandchildren Victoria, Valerie, Drew, and Alex; a sister Jean (Kenny) Kneabone; and brothers Gerald (Beverley) and Donald (Mary Lynne).

Visiting hours Sunday at Hennessey Funeral Home, Charlottetown, 2:00 - 4:00 and 7:00 - 9:00 p.m., with funeral mass Monday at St. Francis of Assisi Church, Cornwall at 11 a.m. Online condolences may be made at islandowned.ca.

Louis McIsaac was one of a kind. He saw good in everything. I never heard him make a negative comment on anyone. His sense of humour and wit were contagious. He was a real horseman in many ways. Smart, compassionate, caring, supportive - you name it. Louis will be missed.

My deepest condolences to Bernice and Louis' family, Louis was a gentleman of the sport, a role model for young people of the sport.

Our Dearest sympathies

Please accept condolences on the untimely passing of Louis . The fall sales just won't be the same without his quiet wisdom and truly wonderful sense of humour . This is truly a sad day for our racing community . Patrick McWade.

My deepest condolences to Bernice and the entire family.

Spent a lot of time at the McIsaac farm growing up and remember it like yesterday. Louis was a great person who left a lasting impression on those he met.

R.I.P.
