The Hippodrome 3R will host its first Tuesday evening card of the season this week (May 29) and popular drivers Guy Gagnon and Richard Simard will be joining the colony for the program.
First-race post time is new for this season at 6:30 p.m.
Gagnon is scheduled to drive in seven of the evening’s eight races, while Simard has four drives. Both reinsmen have been competing regularly at Rideau Carleton Raceway, where Louis-Philippe Roy is the leading pilot (Gagnon is second and both Richard Simard and H3R’s own Stephane Brosseau are tied for fourth place).
At H3R, Brosseau is having a great start to the race meet with 14 wins in the first five days of the season. His UDR is a very impressive .530. Brosseau has drives in six of the races Tuesday evening.
The main event Tuesday (Race 7) will see Dance With Joe take on the red-hot Appleby Hanover.
Dance With Joe and driver Jocelyn Gendron will start from Post 5. The charge will return from Rideau off of a 1:54.4 triumph, his first of the season from four starts. The five-year-old gelded son of Roll With Joe had a perfect trip in that mile for trainer Christine Davignon. He is the 5-2 morning line favourite.
Appleby Hanover will return to race on just two days rest.
He raced at H3R on Sunday and will start from Post 8 on Tuesday for driver Tyler Jones. The young reinsman has gotten along very well with Appleby Hanover. The duo will be looking for its third consecutive win.
Two weeks ago, Appleby Hanover scored in 1:58.1 for Jones, but last week was something special.
A having sat a two-hole trip behind Sea Donkey, Jones pulled Appleby Hanover first-over along the backstretch the second time, collared the race leader by the three-quarters, cleared to the lead on the final turn, and went on to win by a half length in 1:55.1.
The performance went down as a lifetime mark for Appleby Hanover, a five-year-old gelding by Well Said. He is trained and owned by Michel Allard of Saint-Esprit.
