Stablemates Battle In Red Shores Feature

The Winsloe mares will go toe to toe in the Thursday evening (May 26) Fillies and Mares Preferred Pace at Red Shores Racetrack and Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park.

The Thursday card has nine-dashes slated for a 6 p.m. (ADT) opening post time, with the $2,950 Fillies and Mares Preferred Pace aligning in Race 8. The field of six has five mares based out of Winsloe barns including a trio from the Marc Campbell stable.

Campbell trainee Dreamfair Zenfire is the favourite from post 6 after defeating this class last week in 1:55.4. Campbell will drive Dreamfair Zenfire for owners Ryan and Everett MacLeod of Souris. Arc Light is second choice from the Campbell barn with pylon control for driver Jason Hughes fresh off a 1:55.3 victory last week. Third choice on the morning line is post-2 starter Filly Forty Seven with Corey MacPherson aboard for trainer Darryl MacLean. Ladylike will make her East Coast debut in that dash with David Dowling at the lines of the 18-time winner for trainer Colin Johnson from post 5.

Peter MacPhee places Dreamfair Zenfire on top of his Post Time Picks. “Dreamfair Zenfire fired to the front last week and never looked back winning her seasonal debut in 1:55.4,” MacPhee said. “She moves to the outside fence but the game plan may be the same so don’t be shocked if she gets the gold again.” Also in that preferred field are Roselily and Larjon Legacy.

Race 5 of the evening has the season’s first renewal of the Open Trot class with Glider Man the one to beat with pylon control in the $2,700 class. Hughes is in the bike behind the Jennifer Doyle trained and co-owned son of Yankee Glide for co-owner Danny Birt of Earnscliffe. Glider Man led at every station last week to win by over a length in 2:01. Red Shores Charlottetown co-track record holder Freddie has post 2 in the field for trainer-driver Campbell in his first start of the season while the fastest trot mare in Atlantic Canadian racing history, Hop Up, has post 3.
