This week Sudbury Downs announced the first of its 2012 late closing, added money events. The Pot O Gold Stakes for $5,000 claiming pacers will close midnight Wednesday, May 23.
In previous years this race was run in a series of two preliminary races running a week apart wherein the top point earners would come back a third week in the bigger money final. The new format for the 2012 edition is to race all horses on the one night in elimination heats with the top nine finishers racing the following week for an estimated $25,000 final purse. In addition, provided there are sufficient entries, an $8,000 consolation final will be offered for the next nine highest finishers entered.
