Quarantine In Woodbine Backstretch

Multiple reports state that a pair of Thoroughbreds from a barn in the Woodbine Racetrack backstretch have tested positive for Equine Herpes Virus EHV-1 and that a quarantine of the barn in question is currently in place.

Both of the reports explain that the two Thoroughbreds were from Barn 12. The Thoroughbreds were taken to the University of Guelph on Saturday, May 16 and tested positive for the virus while secure at the facility.

Three other Thoroughbreds have been removed from Barn 12 and quarantined. The remainder of the Thoroughbreds from Barn 12 will remain quarantined within the barn until more is known about the situation.

“This will be an evolving situation, and we will keep [horsepeople] updated with information as it is known,” said Woodbine Entertainment Senior VP of Racing Jessica Buckley. “This news is an added challenge during an already difficult time, however, protocols already in place may ultimately help us contain this faster.”
