Stiff Test Awaits Bordogna In Feature

Published: May 15, 2021 05:10 pm EDT

Against all odds, star trotter Bordogna makes his Running Aces return in the feature race on opening night May 16 (Sunday).

The five-year-old Trixton stallion will take on five rivals in the $11,000 Open Handicap Trot, which anchors the opening night card in race six on the program. It is a much-anticipated return for Bordogna, as he will be making his first Aces appearance since a late-season injury last year that left him blind in one eye, and sidelined him from the races.

Bordogna won seven of 10 races last year, set a Running Aces track record, and a Wisconsin state record, while earning $23,940. Justin Anfinson is the trainer for owners Cathy Dessert and Ken Stauffer, and the team is confident that “Bo” is more than ready for his return to Aces to take on the best trotters around. He picked up two wins at the Cannon Falls fair track earlier this month to start his 2021 campaign, and looked very sharp in doing so.

With regular pilot Rick Magee listed to drive, Bordogna drew post one in the six-horse affair on Sunday, and is 5-1 on the morning line. He faces Pridecrest (Mooney Svendsen) who is the fastest trotter to ever circle the Minnesota oval and 7-2 on the morning line, and Mandeville, who won his last three in a row at Cal-Expo and is the 5-2 choice with defending driving champion Nick Roland at the controls. The featured field also includes more familiar names like Hearduwhispermynam (Adam Hauser, 6-1), Winning Lyric (Dean Magee, 9-2) who is back from the east coast, and also includes Aces newcomer All American N (Luke Plano, 3-1) who also ships in from The Meadowlands.

Racing fans will be treated to some new items on the wagering menu for 2021, with the introduction of the 20 cent Place Pick-All wager, 50 cent Trifecta wagering, and 10 cent Superfecta wagering. The Place Pick-All has no carryover provision and will paid out nightly to the best ticket(s) in up to ten races. The reduced minimums on tris and supers makes those exotic wagers more affordable for some players, and affords others the opportunity to spread more and increase their chances of winning.

On-track fans will find more outdoor amenities for racing as the “Race Patio” at Running Aces has been expanded to include the all new “Finish Line Plaza” which offers patrons outdoor wagering options, a covered seating area, and food and beverage concessions.

The live harness racing schedule at Running Aces also looks a bit different this season, with live action now offered every Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday night at 6:05 p.m. Central.

Racing fans and horsemen are invited to check out the Running Aces website (RunAces.com) for FREE live racing tickets, hotel information and reservations, racing entries, results and replays, as well as handicapping information, statistics and so much more.
