Stacked Confederation Cup Card Drawn

Flamboro Downs’ Confederation Cup card is now set to head postward this coming Sunday (May 19). The $188,500 ‘Cup’ final for four-year-old pacers will spearhead an attractive program of racing, which will also include a trio of OSS Gold tilts for three-year-old male trotters and multiple OSS Grassroots splits for three-year-old male pacers.

Post time for the 11-race program will be at 6:55 p.m. The Confederation Cup has been carded as Race 10 and holds an approximate post time of 9:55 p.m. The Gold races for the trotters have been programmed as Race 1, 4 and 6, while the Grassroots dashes for the pacers will face the gate for Race 3, 5, 7, 8 and 9.

The connections of Dorsoduro Hanover were not able to select their charge’s starting spot for the Cup final – due to the fact that the draw for the final was open – but, in the end, it didn’t matter. The impressive son of Somebeachsomewhere drew Post 1 for the Cup final. The Ron Burke trainee is scheduled to have Matt Kakaley back in the bike Sunday. The battery raced well from off the pace in the eliminations and got up to record a half-length victory in 1:53.4 over a ‘sloppy’ track that was rated two second slow. Dorsoduro Hanover races for Burke Racing Stable LLC (of Fredericktown, PA), Jandt Silva Purnel & Libby (Delray Beach, FL), Weaver Bruscemi LLC (Canonsburg, PA) and Wingfield Brothers LLC (Kenton, OH).

Burke’s other elimination winner, Done Well, didn’t fare quite as well as his stablemate when it came to the draw, as the son of Well Said will start from Post 5. Burke has listed Dexter Dunn, who has steered the gelding all year, to be in the driver’s seat once again. The pair were convincing winners in the eliminations, as the bay paced to a strong, wire-to-wire victory in 1:51.4. The margin of victory was four and three-quarter lengths. Done Well is owned by the same connections that own Dorsoduro Hanover.

After having raced well from Post 8 in his elimination, the Richard Moreau-trained and Louis-Philippe Roy-driven Jimmy Freight received some luck in the post draw for the final, as the bay son of Sportswriter will line up in Post 2 on Sunday for owner Adriano Sorella (Guelph, Ont.).
