The horses are back in action for Thursday night racing at Red Shores at the Charlottetown Driving Park.

First-race post time is 7:00 p.m.

Race secretary Gerard Smith has put together a great group of horses with a Fillies and Mares Open in Race 11, a $2,000 back-up feature with Outlawpositivcharg, Matt Trapper and Camcun going behind the gate.

JK Special, owned and trained by Joe Smallwood of Stratford, has drawn the rail in the Fillies and Mares Open. Walter Cheverie will drive the lifetime winner of $106,734 who will take on Too Ideal (listed at morning-line odds of 3-1) and Block Party (7-2) from the Andrew Stable. The field also includes last year’s Spud Island Classic winner General Lucky Percy. Private Joke, owned by Wade Peconi, Windemere Farms and John Howatt, will leave from the back tier (Post 9) for driver Gary Chappell. Private Joke was second by a neck in her last start coming home in 1:59.1. The line-up also includes newcomer Mylittlerebel for Russell and Karen Noonan, Middleton, PE and Noonan Holdings Ltd. The Noonan company will be involved again with the annual Drive for Charity promotion which officially launches on Saturday for Island charities. Keystone Nobility, Dreaming and Dirt Track Momma from the Woodbine circuit completes the line-up.

Camcun is the morning-line favourite in the second feature event in Race 7 for owner Dan Belliveau, Halifax, NS and his co-owner/driver Kenny Arsenault. It’s a tough group of customers which include Van Zant, Le Fugueur, Matt Trapper, Machinthesand, Capitalism and Outlawpositivcharg.

The trot class in Race 5 has a tough roster that filled with speed and trot specialists who will be making their Island debut in the $1,800 class. Zip the Lip, trained by Don Sweet of O’Leary, made up a ton of ground last week after an early miscue to finish second for driver Brian MacPhee. In a trackside interview Saturday, MacPhee said Zip of the Lip is only getting better with each start.

Other morning line favorites include Caliban Hanover (to be driven by Ron Gass) and Delta Dental (Walter Cheverie). Honymoonisover, a new edition for Bill, Brian and Blake Andrew, leaves from the pylons while the Andrew’s other entry Buckling Banbury leaves from the outside rail (Post 8). Diamond Mine is back to race after a winning performance Saturday while Scarlett Patti makes her 2013 debut. Dee Dee Pucker gets to try the legendary CDP oval after shipping in from Flamboro Downs in Ontario.
