Woodbine Jackpot Pick 6 Announced

The Woodbine Entertainment Group has announced the addition of an exciting new wager to its daily betting menu.

The 20-cent Standardbred Jackpot Pick 6 will require horseplayers to select the winners of the last six races on the card. The Jackpot proviso means that the entire pool pays out only when there is one winning ticket sold that correctly selects all six winners.

The new wager, which will offer a 20-cent minimum, will make its debut during the Thursday, April 9 card of racing as Mohawk opens for the 2015 meet. In 2014, races at Mohawk boasted an average field size of 9.2 entrants.

“The excitement surrounding our Jackpot Hi-5 wager is undeniable and we believe our consistently large field sizes will provide similarly sizable pools for horseplayers that meet the challenge of the Pick 6,” said Greg Martin, WEG’s senior director of wagering and technology. “Most horseplayers will be enthused by the chance to hit a big payout on this wager affordably, which we have offered at a 20-cent minimum.”

If there is not just one winning ticket, half of the wagering pool will be carried over and offered on the next racing card. The other half will be paid out in consolation payouts to those Jackpot Pick 6 tickets, which have correctly selected the most winners.

The 20-cent Standardbred Jackpot Pick 6' will sport a 15 per cent takeout.

so let me get this straight.

If $10k is bet into the pool, we are really only competing for 50% of $8500? Until mandatory payout night, I cant see why someone would bother picking 6 winners only to split $4250 with however many others.

This bet is not for true gamblers, but rather those that spend $5-$10 bucks, and chase a dream.

I much prefer the way the Meadowlands does it .. where a portion of the pool is paid to those with the most right picks and the balance is carried over and paid out to those who pick the winners in all 6 races.
Not paying out the entire pool until there is only one winner is just a lottery pick ... using your handicapping skills to pick the winners won't get you the big payout. You might as well just throw in a bunch of quick picks ... because it won't get won until 4 or 5 big long shots win the races.
