Gregory H. Simpson is the newest appointee to the Ohio State Racing Commission by Governor John R. Kasich.
The 66-year-old Milford, Ohio, resident‘s term is from April 14 through March 31, 2021. Commissioner Thomas R. Winters of Columbus was reappointed by Governor Kasich to serve another term for the same time period.
Simpson owns and operates Key Transportation Services, a business he began in Clermont County more than four decades ago. Simpson brings a background of both business and agricultural expertise to the OSRC, and is no stranger to the horse racing community.
“I grew up on a 640-acre crop farm in the Cincinnati area,” Simpson related. “I’ve always loved the farming community and horses in particular. My father raced harness horses back in the 1950s.”
Besides Standardbreds, Simpson is also a big fan of Thoroughbred racing, having “attended the Kentucky Derby on quite a few occasions as well as the Little Brown Jug.”
Simpson attended Moeller High School and served in the Army in Vietnam from 1969-1970 before graduating from Wilmington College with a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration in 1974.
“I’m a big horse racing fan,” he noted. “I love horse racing and the draft horse industry, and horses in general. I’m looking forward to my first OSRC meeting next Monday.”
Simpson is a member of the Clermont County Agricultural Society Fair Board, the Clermont Farm Bureau, is a Clermont County 4-H Advisor and serves as the President of the Clermont County Port Authority. As well, he has served as a member of the Ohio Expositions Commission (State Fair Board) since 2013 and currently represents the dairy farmers on that board.
“There’s nothing better than the county fair atmosphere,” Simpson stressed.
Simpson is also the Past Commander of the VFW Post 4369 (Sharonville, Ohio), and a former President of the both the Clermont Mercy Hospital Guild and Warren County School Board (1979-1991).
In his spare time Simpson enjoys spending time with his wife, Nancy, his son, Greg, and their four grandchildren. Golf and travelling are among his passions as well as “attending the races whenever possible.”
